Niek Brink, brother of acknowledged international top player (and Bridgevaria columnist) Sjoert Brink, showed at an early age that he too is very talented. During the 1996 European Youth Championships, playing in the 'under twenties', he won the award for best dummy play. The way in which he bamboozled the opponents, will probably remind the reader of the master (Zia Mahmood). |

The great strength of leading Dutch international Huub Bertens is his speedy perception. In a half-second he spots opportunities where most bridge players would need many minutes or would not even see the solution at all. In the finals of the Dutch 'Meesterklasse' (top league) teams 2009, he showed this ability. The vuegraph commentators initially did not see how he could escape from the perilous situation in which opponent Simon de Wijs had put him. Mind you, these commentators saw all 52 cards! In the meantime Bertens had already played a card, the only winning one!
