Who is Peter van der Linden?

Peter van der LindenPeter van der Linden learned to play bridge shortly after passing his A levels (a long time ago) and the game has fascinated him ever since. Via student bridge club 'Veritas Bridge Gezelschap' (nowadays called 'Dombo') in Utrecht, Netherlands, he ended up at one of Netherlands' strongest clubs, 'Star' also in Utrecht.
Beginning of the eighties he got the gist of top level bridge but he was not good/single-minded enough (or maybe too lazy to learn by heart the ever expanding bidding systems because he thought and still thinks that bridge should be fun...).
In 1978 he was co-founder of the famous (in Netherlands) 'Star Magazine'. In 1994 he made bridge his profession (until then he was a chemistry teacher) by becoming the editor of the monthly magazine 'BRIDGE'.
In 1998 he moved to Orkanger, Norway (Norwegian wife...) but via the internet remained text editor of BRIDGE (until 2008) and made among other things seven daily Bridge calendars.
The cooperation with Ed Hoogenkamp, which started at BRIDGE, continued in producing the daily calendars, the innovative bridge course 'Van A naar Bridge' (From A to Bridge) and now in this site, Bridgevaria.com.
Van der Linden's earlier profession (teacher) is recognisable in his writing- en editing style (of other people's articles) but like Hoogenkamp he mostly enjoys a good laugh in bridge. Because it is a hilarious game, witness the frequent roars of laughter during the consultations by telephone between ‘Orkanger’ and ‘Barcelona’.
