Reply Ed Hoogenkamp (South) and Peter van der Linden (North) Dear Madelon, Bridge à trois is played in different varieties. Three players bid individually for the dummy. The highest bidder ends up being declarer. The other two defend. An extra rule is that the bidding is over as soon as all three players have passed twice. So you can for example open 1NT and bid 3NT after two passes by your opponents. Usually six cards of the dummy are open, seven closed (but different numbers are used as well). After every bidding round one extra card goes open. After the auction is completed the rest of dummy is revealed before the opening lead, so the defender who is to lead can see all cards before he leads. During the bidding players usually can make an educated guess about the closed cards in dummy. If the bidding reaches a high level, there usually will not be a lot of points in the closed cards. If the bidding begins cautiously, some strength may be expected in the unknown cards. Have fun! Un saludo desde Barcelona og en hils fra Orkanger. |
